The Florentine or Tuscan , a yellowish diamond of 137.27 carats, is cut in the shape of a briolette, with nine-sided facet arrangement.

In 1918 it was still in the possession of the Emperor of Austria. It is presumed that it is the most precious of three diamonds which Charles the Bold of Burgundy according to legend lost in the battle of Granson. A Swiss is said to have found it in a little box, and after a few sales, it went to the regent of Milan, Ludovico Sforza. Upon the split-up of the Milan Treasure, Pope Julius paid 20,000 ducats for it .Later the Medici Family in Florence (hence the name) had it in its possession. When the last of the Medici women died in 1743 without an heir, the large diamond went to Maria Theresia and her spouse, Franz von Lothringen.
